Blue Health Hub

The essence of the blue health concept lies in the recognition and harnessing of the positive effects that aquatic environments, such as oceans, rivers, and lakes have on human health and well-being. Blue health emphasises the connection between water and human health, highlighting the therapeutic and restorative benefits of being in and around water.

At ACE, we have long recognised the benefits of engaging with aquatic environments which can have a profound physical, mental and emotional benefit on us. Things like swimming, surfing, sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding or simply walking along a beach or sitting by a river can offer a unique sense of calm, relaxation and rejuvenation that is distinct from other natural environments.

That’s why we are working towards the development of a Blue Health Hub at Girvan Harbour!

With support from South Ayrshire Council and key community partners. The Hub is being established in a formerly disused space, now actively transitioning into a vibrant centre for water-based activities, wellbeing programmes, environmental action, research, and volunteering.

Once open, the Blue Health Hub will provide a base for a wide range of initiatives—including paddle sports, cold water dipping, snorkelling, blue health walks, sound baths, forest bathing, and ocean-focused environmental projects. It will also serve as a collaborative space for research, citizen science, and local activism, encouraging participation across all ages and backgrounds.

The Hub represents a major step forward for regeneration at the harbour, connecting people to the water, to each other, and to the environment. It will promote physical and mental wellbeing, environmental responsibility, and inclusive community engagement, using Girvan’s stunning coastal location as a platform for change.

We’re excited to bring this vision to life—watch this space for updates and ways to get involved!

BLUE HEALTH ADULT PROGRAMME

We are thrilled to announce that we have successfully secured funding to launch a Blue Health program in Girvan. This innovative initiative is designed to promote holistic well-being through a series of activities inspired by the Blue Health concept.

Blue Health is a holistic approach that recognizes the profound impact of water environments on human health and well-being. It encompasses activities that harness the therapeutic benefits of being near, in, on, or under water. From coastal walks and sea swimming to kayaking and beach yoga, Blue Health activities offer a unique opportunity to connect with nature and enhance physical, mental, and emotional wellness.

Our Blue Health program in Girvan will offer a diverse range of activities tailored to the local community’s needs and interests. Whether it’s exploring the stunning coastline, participating in marine conservation efforts, or simply enjoying moments of tranquillity by the sea, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

Through this program, we aim to not only improve individual well-being but also foster a deeper connection to our natural surroundings and promote sustainable practices that benefit both people and the planet.

We are excited to embark on this journey toward enhanced health and happiness for residents in Carrick, We invite you to join us as we dive into the transformative power of Blue Health. Activities on offer and dates are below. This programme is part of the Scottish Governments Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund for Adults delivered through Voluntary Action South Ayrshire.
