East Ayrshire Adult Health & Wellbeing Programme

We’re delighted to be working with The Outdoor Partnership to deliver a programme of GREEN AND BLUE WELLBEING ACTIVITIES for adults residing in East Ayrshire, funded by the Scottish Government Mental Health & Wellbeing Fund.

With a wide variety of sessions on offer—including canoeing, abseiling and hillwalking —there’s something for everyone. Take time out to unwind, reconnect with nature, and reduce stress levels, all while being supported by professional instructors and enjoying the company of others.

Open Canoeing: Canoeing will take place on Loch Doon and River Irvine.  Open canoeing is an opportunity to experience the world from a different perspective. Imagine gliding through the calm waters, surrounded by breathtaking scenery with a guide who knows how to put you at ease.  Join our open canoeing offer for the perfect balance of relaxation and excitement.

(Canoeing participants should bring with them a towel and a spare change of clothes & shoes.  Please wear shoes that can get wet)

Abseiling: Abseiling will take place at Mauchline Gorge.  Abseiling is going down a rock face backwards and sometimes with a free-fall, i.e. your feet not touching the wall. The height is from 15 to 150 feet. You have two ropes attached to you: one you control and the other is managed by the instructor as a safety rope. The instructor can hold you up or lower you down if you are in difficulty. Taking place in a natural outdoor setting, abseiling offers the added benefits of green/blue health, with time spent among rocks, trees and rivers, helping to promote wellbeing, reduce stress, and encourage a positive connection with nature.

(Abseiling participants should wear sturdy footwear such as hillwalking boots or trainers that tie)

Kayaking:  Kayaking will take place on Loch Doon.  You will explore the loch and enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature, offering the perfect balance of relaxation and excitement. Additionally, you’ll encounter diverse wildlife and pristine landscapes along the way, ensuring that every moment is filled with wonder.  Before you hit the water, our experienced instructors will give you a brief introduction to kayaking. They’ll teach you essential paddling techniques to ensure you feel confident and ready.

(Kayaking participants should wear swimwear for underneath their wetsuit, we will provide, bring shoes that can get wet and a towel.)

Hillwalking: Hillwalking will take place at Shalloch of Minnoch, the highest hill in South Ayrshire. Experience the stunning beauty of this scottish hill, with outstanding views if we are lucky enough to get a clear day. Join us for an enriching journey into nature’s wonder, enjoying both green & blue scenery in the fresh air, whilst deepening your connection with the environment around you.  You’ll sharpen your navigation skills with an Introduction to Navigation.  This walk requires a good level of fitness.

(Hillwalking participants should wear hill walking boots or suitable walking footwear, bring a rucksack and water.)
