Give children the skills to enjoy outdoor swimming safely
Children love swimming outdoors, but swimming in the sea, rivers and lochs is very different from swimming in a heated indoor pool.
Created and developed by Swim England and the RNLI, Swim Safe is now funded and delivered by a range of local partners in Ayrshire. The Outdoor Partnership, Adventure Carrick, Troon Water Sports Hub and the Troon Lifeboat RNLI Water Safety Team are all excited to launch “Swim Safe Ayrshire”.

The Swim Safe Ayrshire programme teaches children how to identify safe places to swim, how to float and what to do if they or someone else gets into difficulty in the water.
The free Wind & Wave sessions are led by trained instructors and take place at Barassie Beach, Troon, during the summer and autumn months. They are open to young people aged 7 to 14.

Kite Surf Scotland offer Kite Flying for 45 minutes, followed by Swim Safe Ayrshire providing a 45 minute water safety education session that combines essential information with practical experience in open water. Participants learn and practise key water safety and self-rescue skills. Weather permitting, instructors also include bodyboarding and stand-up paddleboarding as fun activities that reinforce the session’s safety messages.
All equipment, including wetsuits, is provided.
